How to Renew Philippine Passport in Australia

The Filipino community in Australia can rely to the Philippine Embassy and 7 Consulate Generals in Australia which provide consular services.

But some Consulates have limited services to provide. For passport-related services, the Philippine Embassy is the main source of information for other Consulates.

Where to Renew Philippine Passport in Australia

For OFWs or Filipinos who have dual citizenship in Australia, they can renew Philippine passport in the following government agencies:

  1. Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Canberra
  2. Philippine Consulate General in Sydney
    • In person (no appointment is necessary; first-come, first-served basis)

Depending on your location, you can either renew the passport in person or through the Consular Outreach Service of the Embassy or Consulate General.

Steps on How to Renew Philippine Passport in Canberra

The following steps are for those who prefer an in person (NO need for appointment) passport renewal at the Philippine Embassy in Canberra, Australia:

Step 1: Go to the Embassy and bring the complete requirements.

  1. Accomplished e-Passport application form
  2. Original Philippine passport
  3. Photocopy of the bio data page
  4. Photocopy of Australian visa page or Visa Grant Notice or VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online)

You don’t need to submit a passport size photo. Check the additional requirements for married women, minor applicants, dual citizens, and applicants who lost their passport.

Passport Application Hours:  Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Step 2: Pay the passport processing fee of A$108.00 (renewal of valid passport).

Step 3: Check online the status of the passport application. The Embassy will post the list of applicants whose passport is ready to be released. The processing time is 8- 10 weeks.

Step 4: Claim the e-Passport at the Philippine Embassy.

To claim the e-Passport  by mail, applicants are advised to send the following to the Embassy at 1 Moonah Place, Yarralumla ACT 2600 through registered post/express post platinum:
  1. Original passport
  2. Photocopy of official receipt
  3. Self-addressed registered post/express post platinum return envelope

The embassy will cancel the old passport and will mail it  back to the applicant, together with the new passport.

Once you receive the new passport, you are advised to inform and update the Department of Immigration and Border Protection about the new passport details so these can be linked with your visa.

Steps on How to Renew Philippine Passport in Sydney

The procedures in renewing the Philippine passport in Sydney, Australia is similar to the process at the Philippine Embassy in Canberra (in person and NO need for appointment).

Step 1: Go to the Consulate and bring the complete requirements.

  1. Accomplished e-Passport application form
  2. Original Philippine passport
  3. Photocopy of the bio data page
  4. Photocopy of Australian visa page or Visa Grant Notice or VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online)

The applicant’s photograph, fingerprints and signature are digitally captured at the Consulate. Check the additional requirements for married women, minor applicants, dual citizens, and applicants who lost their passport.

Passport Application Hours:  Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Step 2: Pay the passport processing fee of A$108.00 for the renewal (cash or postal money order payable to the “Philippine Consulate General”).

Step 3: Check online the status of the passport application. The Embassy will post the list of applicants whose passport is ready to be released. The processing time is 8 – 10 weeks.

Step 4: Claim the e-Passport at the Philippine Consulate General. Choose from the 3 different ways on how to claim the new passport.

Passport Claim in Person: Get the passport from Monday to Friday, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Bring the following requirements.

  1. Original old passport
  2. Original official receipt

Passport Claim by Authorized Person: Your representative should bring the following requirements.

  1. Original signed authorization letter
  2. Original old passport
  3. Original official receipt
  4. Valid ID of the authorized person

Passport is Sent Through Mail:

  1. Letter requesting the Consulate to send the new Passport by post
  2. Original old passport
  3. Original official receipt
  4. Self-addressed Express Post Platinum envelope indicating the address where the new Passport should be sent. Note: We recommend that applicants request Australia Post to require signature on delivery of the return Express/Registered envelope to help ensure that said envelope is handed to the intended recipient.

Consular Outreach Service of the Philippine Embassy

Although there are 6 more Consulate Generals in Australia, their consular services do NOT include passport-related transaction. But don’t worry. If you cannot travel, stay on the lookout for the Mobile Unit.

The Philippine Embassy in Canberra provides Consular Outreach Service to the Filipino  community in different locations in Australia.

In case of emergency and you have an expired passport, you can apply for a Travel Document in any of the Consulate Generals or Embassy. The Travel Document is only used for entry into the Philippines. You must renew the passport before going back to Australia or another country.
